Calendar of Events - October 2017

  • Tuesday, October 3rd, 6:30pm: ExComm Meeting and Dinner. Let's check out MOD Pizza, 7447 N Academy Blvd, at Falcon Landing. According to their website "MOD is the original superfast pizza experience - a pioneering fast-casual concept that puts you in the driver's seat. Artisan-style pizzas and salads are individually sized, made on demand, and ready in minutes. Choose from over 30 toppings - the price stays the same no matter what you pick." Let's check them out and see what we think!! The ExComm Meeting is our business meeting and takes about two minutes to conduct. All members and guests are welcome at this event!
  • October 6th, 5pm: Give In To Beer Pressure! In October, we'll be visiting one of the newest breweries in Colorado Springs: Goat Patch! With a name like that, we just have to give them a try! Goat Patch is in the new "Lincoln Center" at 2727 North Cascade, Suite 123, phone 719-471-4628 (GOAT) - isn't that clever? The new breweries keep coming and repurposed school buildings seem to be a popular landing spot. Lincoln Center is the former Lincoln Elementary school and is becoming home to a growing number of shops and businesses. Let's get schooled in good beer!
  • Saturday, October 7th, 10am: Caffeine Conundrum! Let's check out Building Three Coffee Roasters for the October CC event! Building Three is located in the new Lincoln Center, 2727 North Cascade. Building Three Coffee touts roasting in small batches, which allows them to pull unique characteristics from each. They also believe in careful control over brew technique in order to extract all that each amazing coffee has to offer! While there we can check out the Lincoln Center, which, like Ivywild, is a school that is being reused for local businesses! As always, if you hear of a new coffee place, let John know by phone (719) 571-0471or e-mail:

  • Saturday, October 14th, 6pm: Movie Night! Tonight - Pocketful of Miracles! "Director Frank Capra's last feature film, Pocketful of Miracles is a Technicolor remake of his 1933 film Lady for a Day. A barely recognizable Bette Davis plays Apple Annie, the besotted, unkempt, rag-clad street vendor who controls the activities of all the beggars on Broadway. Apple Annie is the pet of Dave the Dude (Glenn Ford), a tough but basically kind-hearted gangster who believes that Annie's apples bring him luck. One morning, Annie fails to show up at her usual corner. That's because she is sitting disconsolate in her squalid shack, contemplating suicide. The reason: Annie has received a letter from her daughter Louise (Ann-Margret, in her screen debut). Annie has been supporting Louise's high-priced European education, leading the girl to believe that she, Annie, is a high-society dowager. Now Louise is returning home with her wealthy fiancé Carlos Romero (Peter Mann) in tow, and it looks as though Annie's cover will be blown to bits. Partly out of sympathy, but mostly because of his superstitious belief in the power of Annie's apples, Dave the Dude arranges with his Broadway cohorts to "doll up" Annie so that she can pass as a woman of means, then stage-manages a huge, expensive reception for Louise and her beau. Cutting through the sentimental goo like a machete is Peter Falk, who is hilarious as Dave the Dude's sarcastic bodyguard. Pocketful of Miracles has a lot going for it, especially the glowing performance of Bette Davis and the basic, foolproof Damon Runyon story on which it is based."

And, just as some of us might remember from days past, we'll have a short feature before the main movie (probably a cartoon and/or Benny Hill episode) along with movie food (popcorn, hot dogs, and candy). The Coopers are hosting this event and supplying the movie snacks, but you'll need to bring what you want to drink. The movie will be rated PG and children are invited, too! Please RSVP by Thursday, October 12th, to or 719-646- 4456. The Coopers live at 1105 Bowstring Road, Monument.

Winner will be declared the Plains & Peaks Mini-golf Champion ... and can keep that title until the next time we go mini-golfing!
  • Tuesday, October 24th, 6:00pm: Trivial Pursuits. We're playing Showdown, a 6-stage trivia contest featuring a wide variety of topics, at Buffalo Wild Wings, 2905 Geyser Drive (at I-25 and Lake, next to Outback Steaks and Tinseltown) - they claim to have 45 players and Wi-Fi so everybody should be able to play! We're drinking some adult beverages (if you want to) and noshing on wings and other Buffalo Wild Wings specialty foods like burgers and sandwiches!
