Calendar of Events - April 2017

  • Wednesday, April 5th, 6:30pm: ExComm Meeting & Dinner. Let's visit Togo's Sandwiches, 27 S. Tejon. I'm partial to their #24, the avocado turkey club! It's the best! And as usual, there will be a very short business meeting and then dinner. Just a reminder - this event is open to all our Mensa members and their guests!
  • Friday, April 7th, 5pm: Give In To Beer Pressure! Red Leg Brewing Company is veteran-owned, and veteran-focused. Their name comes from the Civil War, where artillerymen wore a crimson stripe down the leg of their trousers in order to be more easily located on the field of battle. They have several fine brews that are regularly available, and they release a new specialty beer every Friday. Friday food is typically provided by Mira Sol food truck (New Mexico deliciousness). Red Leg Brewing Company is at 4630 Forge Road in Colorado Springs (off Garden of the Gods between I-25 and Centennial), Remember, if you know of a good brew-pub or happy hour bar in the local area that we have missed, please let Sean know. By email:, or cell : (719) 651-6706.

  • Saturday, April 8th, 10am: Mensa Admissions Testing. If you know someone who would like to test for Mensa membership, this is the day! Contact Sandy ( or 528-5483) for details.
  • Saturday, April 8th, 6pm: RSVP for BurgerQuest! Reply "yes" as soon as you can, but no later than 6pm today, April 8th, for tomorrow's meeting. Call George at 719-418-6073 (and leave a message), or send him an e-mail at Forgot to reply? Come anyway, we'll fit you in. And plan to bring the munchkins; BurgerQuest is a kid-friendly event.
  • Sunday, April 9th, 1pm: BurgerQuest 2017-04: We're meeting at the Black Bear Diner, 1340 West Garden of the Gods Road, Colorado Springs, just west of I-25. RSVP by yesterday so we can let them know how many to expect. Even if you don't RSVP, come anyway, we'll make room. Be sure to bring the Cookie Crumblers, BurgerQuest is a kid-friendly event.
  • Wednesday, April 12th, 6:30 pm: Mini-Golf! It's the "Return of Mini Golf 2017." April thru September, on the second Wednesday of each month at 6:30 pm, we'll meet up at Adventure Mini Golf, 6550 Corporate Drive in Colorado Springs, just off Woodman and I-25. This is a family-friendly event, with a monthly trophy that's even MORE glamorous than last year's. Cost for 18 challenging holes is $5 for adults, $4 for kids and seniors! Winner will be declared the Plains & Peaks Mini-golf Champion... and will keep that title until the next time.
  • Sunday, April 16th, 4:30pm: Kimball's Peak Three Movie! Join some of your fellow Mensans at Kimball's, which is a downtown (Pikes Peak and Tejon) first run movie theater showing "the very best of current independent and foreign films." The plan is to meet at 4:30, have a drink in Kimball's full service bar, select a movie to attend together, and then afterwards, have another drink and/or dinner and discuss the movie. We'll be taking a chance on what Kimball's is showing on this date - but you never know! Could be the best movie you've ever seen!!
  • Tuesday, April 18th, 6:00pm: Trivial Pursuits. We're playing Showdown, a 6-stage trivia contest featuring a wide variety of topics, at Buffalo Wild Wings, 2905 Geyser Drive (at I-25 and Lake, next to Outback Steaks and Tinseltown) - they claim to have 45 players and Wi-Fi so everybody should be able to play! We're drinking some adult beverages (if you want to) and noshing on wings and other Buffalo Wild Wings specialty foods like burgers and sandwiches! The actual game starts at 6:30pm, but if you want a game player you probably should get there earlier! Call or e-mail Al (719-465-3747, to let him know you'll be there!
  • Saturday, April 22nd, 10am: Caffeine Conundrum at Jives Coffee Lounge! Start your weekend off with some great coffee, conversation, and company! John R. is leading this event for our coffee lovers (or tea! Or whatever!) and we'll be visiting different coffee houses around town once a month. We chose Caffeine Conundrum for the event name - at least for now! Why not join us with your ideas? We'll be meeting in April at Jives Coffee Lounge, 5865 N Nevada, Colorado Springs, right in front of Pikes Peak Harley Davidson. See you there - bright and early!
  • Sunday, April 23rd, 2pm: Scrabble®! Meet at Sandy's house, 6066 Del Rey Drive (near Flintridge and Dublin, call 528-5483 or email for directions) for an afternoon of just-for-fun Scrabble®. Sodas, wine and snacks provided. Adults only, please! Allergy alert - cats and dogs!
  • Saturday, April 29th, 6pm: Ultimate Saturday Supper! Let's try Till Kitchen, 9633 Prominent Point (off Powers and Briargate Parkway). The last time we tried to dine there, they were overbooked with private parties and couldn't fit us in - so we're giving them another chance in April! TK features American comfort food with a country twist, using "responsibly sourced food, freshly crafted cuisine and an extensive wine selection that connects you to the best of Colorado." Till Kitchen also boasts their salmon is wild-caught and their meats and poultry are pasture-raised and hormone free. As usual contact Al (465-3747, by Thursday April 27th to reserve your place at the table.
