Calendar of Events - December 2017

  • Advance Notice: Friday, December 1st, 5pm: Give In To Beer Pressure.
GITBP is 7 years old! An event doesn't last that long without some tradition emerging. One of those traditions is that December is becoming "Tap Room Month". There are a few that have opened, and enough in planning to keep us busy for a few years. One gem that snuck under the radar is Tap Traders, in the old Alexander Film building at 3104 N Nevada Ave, #100. They have maintained the film theme, with Alexander Film artifacts on display. Remember, if you know of a good brew-pub or happy hour bar we have missed, please let Sean know. Contact him by cell: (719) 651-6706 or email: sean.mccormick.us@member.mensa.org.
  • Advance Notice: Saturday, December 2nd, 10am: Caffeine Conundrum. Let's venture downtown to 526 S. Tejon to visit the Coffee Exchange. The Coffee Exchange has locally roasted, organic (and fair trade) coffee with Cuban and White Expresso their specialties! Also, all their baked goodies are made daily in-house! Yum!! Remember, if you hear of a new coffee place, let John know by phone (719) 571-0471or e-mail: jarofberts@gmail.com.
  • Advance Notice: Saturday, December 9th, 5pm: Mensa Holiday Gala! Join us for an evening of holiday frivolity, Mensa camaraderie, gifts, dinner and fun, fun,
fun!! See the article in this newsletter for details!
  • Tuesday, December 19th, 6:00pm: Trivial Pursuits. We're playing Showdown,
a 6-stage trivia contest featuring a wide variety of topics, at Buffalo Wild Wings, 2905 Geyser Drive (at I-25 and Lake, next to Outback Steaks and Tinseltown) - they claim to have 45 players and Wi-Fi so everybody should be able to play! We're drinking some adult beverages (if you want to) and noshing on wings and other Buffalo Wild Wings specialty foods like burgers and sandwiches! The actual game starts at 6:30pm, but if you want a game player you probably should get there earlier! Call or e-mail Al (719-465-3747, alackerson@msn.com) to let him know you'll be there!

Calendar of Events - January 2018

  • Tuesday, January 2nd, 6:30pm: ExComm Meeting and Dinner! Brrrrr! Let's warm up with some chicken noodle soup or perhaps pasta at Noodles & Company, 2455 Montebello Square Dr. (just off Academy and Montebello). Their menu boasts a wide selection and usually their dishes are big enough for two! If you get the chance, let Sandy know you'll be there (mandshalby@comcast.net or call 719-528-5483).

Their reviews are spectacular - so let's give them a try! You can check their web-site at www.agiasophiacoffeeshop.com. Remember, if you hear of a new coffee place, let John know by phone (719) 571-0471or e-mail: jarofberts@gmail.com.
  • Wednesday, January 10th, 6pm: Winter Mini-Golf! We'll be playing indoors
at the "Glowgolf" course, which is indoors at the Chapel Hills Mall, downstairs near Dillard's in Suite 717. There are 2 courses: Jungle (easy) and Aquatic (challenging), and if you're over 55 (and who isn't?), it's only $5 for unlimited play on either course you choose!

your fellow Mensans at Kimball's, which is a downtown (Pikes Peak and Tejon)
first run movie theater showing "the very best of current independent and foreign films." The plan is to meet at 4:30, have a drink in Kimball's full-service bar, select a movie to attend together, and then afterwards, have another drink and/or dinner and discuss the movie. We'll be taking a chance on what Kimball's is showing on this date - but you never know! Could be the best movie you've ever seen!!

(lobsters), and other vermin of the briny deep. Get started with a pound of peel and eat shrimp, voodoo chicken bites, or New England clam chowder (why does anyone
even want to eat Manhattan clam chowder?) and then plunge into pails and buckets and platters of the bounty of the sea! Call, e-mail, or text Al (465-3747, alackerson@
